Diese vielen Bildvorlagen warteten auf einen Nutzer, der kunsthistorische Entwicklungen erkannte und Kombinationen sah. Nach über hundert Jahren übernimmt Marcel Odenbach diese Rolle im Rahmen des Sammlungssatelliten #6 und thematisiert damit eines der vergessenen Kapitel in der Geschichte des Kaiser Wilhelm Museums: die Lehr- und Vorbildersammlung, die Friedrich Deneken als erster Direktor angelegt hat. ... Für diesen sechsten Sammlungssatelliten hat Marcel Odenbach die Rolle des Besuchers und Nutzers jenes Lesesaals eingenommen, in dem die Reproduktionen im Kaiser Wilhelm Museum einst vorlagen, und mit dem Bildmaterial zwei neue Arbeiten geschaffen. ... Anders in der Videoprojektion 'Verzettelungen' -- hier hat Odenbach die Regie der Bilder übernommen. Mit nur hundertneunundzwanzig Motiven fokussiert er den außereuropäischen Teil der Kunstgeschichte, wie er in der enzyklopädisch angelegten Lehr- und Vorbildersammlung vorhanden ist. Inspiriert von Aby Warburgs Methode des vergleichenden Sehens hat Odenbach Bildkombinationen zusammengestellt, in denen sich Motive, Themen, Stilmerkmale, Bildformeln entsprechen. Sie fließen als monumentale Abbilder durch den Raum und fordern permanent zum Abgleich heraus. A vast number of reproductions traced a history of art from antiquity to the late 19th century. These many images were waiting for a user who recognised art-historical developments and saw possible combinations. After more than one hundred years, Marcel Odenbach takes on this role as part of Collection Satellite #6 and thus addresses one of the forgotten chapters in the history of the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum: the Teaching and Prototype Collection compiled by Friedrich Deneken as its first director. ... For this sixth Collection Satellite, Marcel Odenbach has taken on the role of visitor and user of the reading room in which the reproductions were once available in the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum and created two new works with the visual material. ... The focus is different with the video projection 'Verzettelungen' -- here, Odenbach directs the images. With only one hundred and twenty-nine motifs, he focuses on the non-European part of art history as it exists in the encyclopedically conceived Teaching and Prototype Collection. Inspired by Aby Warburg's method of comparative visual analysis, Odenbach has compiled combinations of pictures in which motifs, themes, stylistic features, and pictorial formulae correspond. They flow through the room as monumental images and permanently challenge us to compare them with each other.
