"Genoemd naar mr. Daniël Jacob van Heusde (1848 - 1910), een kantonrechter in Gouda, die zeer werd geacht om zijn humaniteit en weldadigheid. Van Heusde werd in 1883 griffier bij het Goudse kantongerecht. Na het overlijden van de kantonrechter mr. Van Mie-rop in 1889 werd hij benoemd als diens opvolger. In 1909 nam hij om gezondheidsredenen ontslag. Van Heusde, die ongetrouwd bleef, verrichtte zijn filantropische werkzaamheden liefst zo onopvallend mogelijk. Hij schonk belangrijke geldsommen voor de restauratie van de glazen in de Sint-Janskerk: in 1907 8000 gulden voor de restauratie van glas 8 en in 1908 nog eens 2000 gulden voor hetzelfde doel. Na zijn dood bleek hij voor het herstel van de Goudse glazen een legaat van 25.000 gulden te hebben vermaakt."@nl |
