"Genoemd naar Veenenburg, een voormalige buitenplaats onder Lisse. Al vanaf de 16e eeuw bevond zich op de grens van Lisse en Hillegom het Huis ter Panne, dat later Veenen-burg werd genoemd. Het maakte deel uit van een uitgestrekt landgoed in het duingebied. In 1899 verwierf Arnoud Hendrik baron van Hardebroek van Ammerstol van zijn schoonfamilie het landgoed. Aanvankelijk bewoonde de baron het huis Veenenburg, maar samen met eigenaren van aangrenzende landgoederen richtte hij in 1902 de 'Maatschappij tot exploitatie van de gronden Veenenburg/Elsbroek' op. De gronden werden afgegraven en ingericht als bollengrond en alle buitenplaatsen verdwenen. Het huis Veenenburg is in 1913 gesloopt."@nl |
