"Genoemd naar de oorspronkelijke naam van de Ferdinand Huyckstraat. Toen in 1915 woningen werden gebouwd langs de Nieuwe Gouwe, gebeurde dat langs drie straten. De meest oostelijke van die straat liep in noordelijke richting om vervolgens in westelijke richting af te buigen naar de Nieuwe Gouwe Oostzijde en kreeg daarom de naam Noorderstraat. (De andere twee straten waren de Kanaalstraat en de Parkstraat.) Later werd die Noorderstraat gesplitst in een Eerste en een Tweede Noorderstraat. In verband met de uitbreiding van het 'Rode Dorp' in de jaren 1956 - 1958 zijn in 1957 namen gegeven aan de nieuwe straten, en zijn bestaande straatnamen gewijzigd. De Eerste Noorderstraat kreeg de naam Majoor Fransstraat; de Tweede Noorderstraat kreeg eerst de naam Noorderstraat terug en werd vervolgens gewijzigd in Ferdinand Huyckstraat. Bij de grootschalige nieuwbouw in de 21e eeuw is op voordracht van het wijkteam Nieuwe Park besloten om de historische naam Noorderstraat terug te brengen."@nl |
