schema:text The photographs were made by one of England's most celebrated photographers Francis Frith (1822-1898), who made three expeditions to the Middle East between 1856 and 1860. Although also separately published, this volume was part of a four-volume set for which Frith received a prize medal at the 1862 International Exhibition in London. Including photographs of the colossal sculptures at Philae, a Roman arch on the island of Biggeh, the temple of Maharraka, the entrance to the great temple Abou Simbel, Cairo from the east, a street view in Cairo, the pyramids of Dahshoor, the rameseum Thebes, pillars in the great hall of Karnac etc.
