"Ian Buruma is known as a connoisseur of Asia and Japan in particular. Less known is that he is also a photographer. This book publishes a wide selection of the beautiful photographs he took in his Tokyo years. Japan is on the one hand a conformist society full of ranks, classes and complicated rules of etiquette. But Japan, like England, is also a country with a strong theatrical tradition full of eccentricity. In 'Tokyo mon amour' Buruma described the atmosphere of Tokyo in the 1970s and his adventures in the theatre scene there. For a photographer, the Tokyo of that time was a dream.
