skos:scopeNote "MARKS ON ART database is a new RKD database that documents marks that appear on paintings with panel or copper supports, on sculptures, and on furniture from the period 1300-1700. Related to the genesis of these works of art, they include hallmarks and position marks, panel makers’ marks, masters’ marks of painters, sculptors, and cabinetmakers, marks of wood dealers, patrons, etc. They contain unique information about works of art and their makers, dating, and place of manufacture, as well as the transportation of the requisite materials. The goal of the MARKS ON ART database is to compile as many of these marks as possible in an online database intended to be a unique instrument for researchers, dealers, and other interested parties.
