"In Amsterdam, Deichsel recalls his conversation with Pasquier Quesnel. They discuss the controversy that led to Quesnel's exile. Deichsel tells him it is well known in Germany as well. Quesnel explains that Deichsel almost missed him, since he intended to go on a holiday around Holland. Deichsel then discusses the relationship between Clermont and Quesnel, and between Quesnel and the Cardinal de Noailles, after briefly describing Quesnel. Mr. Clermont then mentions the banishment of Jesuits out of China."
