"Nicodemus Tessin completes his description of Paleis Soestdijk. Next, Tessin visits Gerard de Lairesse in Amsterdam. He considers De Lairesse a very good painter. He notes a beautiful study for the city hall. He notes that Johannes Glauber - the best landscape painter in Amsterdam - is present there as well. The two painters are working together on a series of paintings. Tessin visits Melchior d'Hondecoeter - the best painter for birds and animals - and comments on his character and manner of painting. Tessin is very impressed with a painting with flowers by Maria van Oosterwijck that Tessin shows him; he informs us that she was currently in London and had been a pupil of Cornelis de Heem."
