"In Amsterdam, the Uffenbach brothers are visiting the merchant Hendrik ten Kate to see his collection of naturalia. Uffenbach describes his preparations of reptiles and animal, including an armadillo. Ten Kate shows them a snake who had just swallowed a mouse; Uffenbach considers it impossible that a small snake could eat a larger prey, and suspects a swindler had cut open the snake and put a mouse inside."
