"The Uffenbach brothers are visiting the painter Rachel Ruysch in Amsterdam. Uffenbach comments on how she paints everything after life, and therefore kept bird nests and insects. Uffenbach describes Ruysch and her husband Pool, and the clock in their house. In the afternoon, the brothers continue to Rossier to see the wooden talking head. It was currently in The Hague, and would return to Amsterdam for the Kermis [fair]. They discuss how the head works."
