"In Amsterdam, the Uffenbach brothers are visiting the makelaar Martin Coelenburg. Uffenbachs brother purchases a small silver object of Mary Magdalene by Dürer. The brothers then visit the portrait painter Pool, mostly to see the paintings by his wife, Rachel Ruysch. She has two paintings ready, made in commission for La Court in Leiden for 1500 guilders: one still life with flowers and one with fruits. Uffenbach praises her manner, but prefers the Mignon painting he saw at Ruppel in The Hague [RKD excerpt no. 776525]. Ruysch tells them that she cannot produce more than two paintings a year above the ones she is already commissioned to make. As court painter in the service of Elector Johan Wilhelm of the Palatine, she is obliged to deliver one painting annually. She is working on two paintings for Cosimo III de' Medici as well."
