"The Uffenbach brothers are in Amsterdam, and finish their visit to the Meel to see his book collection. He tells them about a purchase on an auction. Later the brothers receive a visit from the dealer Joseph Speyer, who shows them his goods of precious antique and modern stones and beautiful vessels. Uffenbach did not want to buy for two reasons: it was too expensive and he was afraid of fraude because Speyer was Jewish. The next day, the brothers visit the shop of the lady Catharina Lescalje, and buys from her six volumes of a comedy."
