"Lucä arrives in the Schenkenschanz fortress and describes how the Rhine splits there. He laments how poorly the city is guarded. He enters the fortress without many questions asked at the gates. One of his comrades manages to buy something to smoke with from the guard at the gate, which Lucä disapproves of. In the evening, they arrive in Arnhem. Lucä recalls being confronted to the Dutch women's boldness for the first time."
