sdo:abstract "In Leiden, the Uffenbach brothers are visiting the painter Van Mieris; he shows them several of his own paintings. Uffenbach admires one of a skipper with a handkerchief with shrimp and a glass of beer in front of him; the old woman next to him points at a sign on the wall "drooge Schollen" [Common dabs]. Further, he had about six pieces, somewhat larger, and with historical content - all were just started and ordered by liefhebbers. Van Mieris shows them his collection of small antiquities and plaster-casts; these included objects that Uffenbach had bought at Van der Mij. Uffenbach informs us that Van der Mij's son had studied painting with Van Mieris. Van Mieris explains to them Van der Mij's special manner of casting hands and faces after life."
