sdo:abstract "The Uffenbach brothers are in Leiden, visiting the widow of the former professor of botany Paul Hermann. Uffenbach has the handwritten catalogue of this collection in hand, and comments on the different curiosities listed. He complains that the widow lets everything get ruined. He notes that the glasses with spiritus vini should be refilled, and that she prefers to drink the brandy herself. The widow wishes to sell the collection for 7000 guilders and had put it in the newspaper several times already; if no one responds she will put them up for auction. Uffenbach expresses his hope that the collection would soon be sold so the herbarium will stay preserved, according to him one of the most complete and best in the entire world. He starts describing the herbarium. She had offered it to the King of Prussia for 300 guilders after it has lost most of its value due to poor preservation."
