| sdo:abstract | "Still at Tydeman in Zwolle, Uffenbach mentions his collection of naturalia. Because Tydeman praised the mechanic Bramer, the Uffenbach brothers pay him a visit to look at his instruments. In the afternoon, the Uffenbach brothers visit pastor Frederik van Leenhof, "who had made himself famous through the controversy that arose over his book". Uffenbach mentions a good collection of paintings and prints here. He mentions in particular a trompe l'oeil of an engraving attached to a timber board; so lifelike, according to Uffenbach, that you would not recognize it being a painting until you would touch it and feel the canvas. Uffenbach also mentions a panel with a scene with Mary Magdalene, for which Van Leenhof had a special wooden, painted case made to house it because it was painted by a contemporary of Lucas van Leyden. In Uffenbachs opinion, however, Leenhof's painting and drawings are not so special." |
