"In Amsterdam, Vogel continues his report to the United East India Company officials concerning his work as supervisor of the mines in Sumatra. They ask him whether he wants to go back to Sumatra with a promotion. Vogel answers that he just arrived and refuses, which the officials accept, although they have him wait several more weeks for the remainder of his salary. In the following days, he attends worship at a Lutheran church and recognizes the duke of Sachsen-Gotha."
