"In Amsterdam, Vogel tries to get hired in the East India Company, but has to wait for the next ship because the negotiations for the Peace of Nijmegen are delaying the departures. Lacking money to continue staying in his inn, he decides to enlist with the Dutch Army in Mechelen. He leaves Amsterdam on foot on July 20th and arrives in Utrecht. He realizes that enlisting in Mechelen would be a great risk and decides to enlist in Zwolle. He leaves Utrecht and arrives in Amersfoort, where he describes the city's geographical situation and means of sustenance."
