"Montesquieu finishes his commentary on the Dutch character. He arrives in Amsterdam from Utrecht on October 15th and describes the landscape along the way. On October 17th, he visits the city hall and comments on the paintings he sees there. He then describes the streets and houses of Amsterdam, as well as the stock exchange building. He moves on to the people working near the harbour."
