Scrape the hide and soak it, first in water and later in sumac; hang it in the shade until it has absorbed the sumac. Then, take some ground galls and copperas and dissolve in water. Place the hide into this mixture and rub well. Once it is well soaked, extend the hide on a flat surface and rub on the colour side with bleach and oil; rinse, always in the shade, and use a hide breaker to soften." |
