sdo:abstract "Vincenzo Maria Coronelli continues his visit to Leiden. He visits the collection of medals, antiquities and books of Jakob Gronovius (Gronow) and refers to other collections of books and medals in the city. In the city hall, he admires the triptych by Lucas van Leyden. He refers to the omnipresence of works by Dou and Mieris in the city. He remarks that Leiden was an important center of publishing and refers to the Republic of Letters. He mentions different buildings in the city (Burcht, bell tower, hospital) and comments on the trade in linen. Coronelli refers to the event celebrated with the Leids Ontzet. He finishes the description of Leiden by lamenting the inglorious end of the river Rhine."
