"De AIAS werd op 30 november 1990 opgericht in het Bauhaus te Dessau in Duitsland op initiatief van de Gerrit Rietveld Academie en de Schule für Gestaltung te Basel in Zwitserland. Doelstellingen waren om contacten te onderhouden en deze te versterken tussen de deelnemende instituten en ter bevordering van de internationalisering van kunstonderwijs. Simon den Hartog was de eerste bestuursvoorzitter van AIAS. De Rietveld Academie vormde in deze periode het hoofdkantoor en voerde het secretariaat. Daarna verhuisde het AIAS- secretariaat naar ArtEZ Visual Art & Design Enschede (nu: ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, faculteit Art & Design, en nog veel vroeger de Academie voor Kunst en Industrie (AKI)" |
