De Gute Industrieform is de naamvoorganger van de iF Awards. De prijs werd toegekend tijdens het gelijknamige beursonderdeel van de beurs in Hannover. De Zentralstelle zur Förderung deutscher Wertarbeit e.V. organiseerde sinds 1952 de jaarlijkse tentoonstelling van ambachten en industriële vormgeving op de beurs van Hannover. Vanaf 1962 werden de beurs en de prijs iF genoemd.
