schema:abstract "Dammas Claesz, painter, as husband and guardian of Marytgen Lucasdr, sole heiress of the late Master Lucas Huygenz, her father, sues Jan van Ryswyck, possessor of the estate of Lady Elysabeth van Bosschuysen, who was his wfie, widow of the aforesaid Master Lucas. The plaintiff states that on the strength of Lucas’s testament, Elysabeth during her life enjoyed the usufruct of Lucas’s entire estate, which Jan van Ryswyck still possesses without any right to it and despite proper requests and summonses brought by Dammas Claesz demanding delivery of the aforesaid goods, and especially of some copper plates that he particularly needs. The defendant remains entirely unwilling to comply. The plaintiff demands that the magistrates order the defendant to deliver all the goods from the estate of Master Lucas Huygenz or else pay 1500 gold Karolus guldens, plus damages and costs arising from the plaintiff’s not having possession of the copper plates to use. The case was scheduled but then postponed. On 8 November the court decided in favor of the plaintiff. An additional document dated 13 November 1538 records that Dammas Claesz agreed to a three-week delay during which Jan van Ryswyck promised the court not to take legal action against the court’s decision in favor of Dammas Claesz." ;
