Tint the water with one of these materials, but do not give it as much alum per ounce as with the kermes.Kermes has a more concentrated dye than Brazil wood, or madder. Therefore add it proportionately; with practice you will find that in this case, to each pound of shearings, you will add more Brazil wood or madder root, because they do not have as much dye, as the same amount of kermes.
